A well-cared-for bikini lasts three summers.
Ours are made to hold up, but they’re not immortal. The good news: with a simple 60-second routine, you multiply its life significantly. These are the principles we apply ourselves.
1. After every use: rinse in fresh water.
If you’ve been in the sea or a pool, rinse the bikini in cold tap water before doing anything else. Salt and chlorine are the number one enemies of elasticity. Ten seconds under the shower at the beach bar, and you’re done.
2. Washing: by hand, cold water, gentle soap.
Once a week (or after a heavy-use day): wash by hand in a basin with cold water and a few drops of gentle soap. No strong detergent, no fabric softener. Rub gently — do not wring.
3. Drying: in the shade, flat.
Never in direct sun. Never in a dryer. Never on a hanger (it deforms the straps). Ideal: lay it flat on a towel, in the shade, indoors or on a shaded terrace.
4. During the day.
Sunscreen and oils: apply to dry skin before putting on the bikini, and let them absorb for 5 minutes. Sunscreen (especially formulas with avobenzone) can stain the fabric.
Jacuzzi: better with a different bikini. The heat + concentrated chlorine of a jacuzzi degrades elasticity much faster than the sea or a regular pool.
Rough surfaces: rocks, concrete steps, a rough boat deck — these can snag threads. A folded towel underneath fixes that.
5. Storing between summers.
Fully dry, folded (not rolled), in a drawer with an anti-humidity sachet or a lavender bag. If you store it damp, mould appears. If you store it hung, it loses its shape.
What we don’t recommend.
- Washing machine. Even on «delicate» cycle, the friction damages the straps.
- Iron. Never.
- Bleach. Never, not even on white. It alters the fabric and the colours.
- Tumble dryer. Never.
If something breaks.
Write to us. If it’s a manufacturing defect, we replace the piece. If it’s normal wear, we give you options (sometimes fixable, sometimes not). But we want to know — it helps us improve the next drop.
Three summers. That’s what we stand behind with every Kaluca. More, if you treat it well.
